Kerolin Govender is the director of Jivan Architects and a professional architect with over 7 years of experience. He studied at Visvesvaraya Technological University in Karnataka, Bangalore India where he completed his bachelor degree in Architecture. During his studies he identified the need of cultural performance spaces as a means of promoting multi-ethnic social integration, this interest was fueled by his unique South African Indian Identity and bringing people and cultures together through built environment. Kerolin’s interest in holistic and sustainable design lead him to pursuing his professional diploma in Vaastu Shastra from the Institute of Vedic Astrology in Indore India.
Kerolin is also a classical performing artist in his own right having trained both in Carnatic music in his home town Durban, South Africa and later on in Bangalore, India. His versatility and interest in multiple genres of art and culture has lead him to working with various artists from diverse communities, bridging the gap between people and place, allowing all people to listen and appreciate multi-cultural ethnic and traditional music. Kerolin is also the creative director of Jivanmukta music, a platform for like-minded people to share in the experience of soulful music and art. He believes architecture and music have the potential to heal and lives by the his motto: “Rediscover the true-self and live with the yearning to discover.”
